Our Story Southern Youth and Family Serices Association (SYFS) was founded in 1977 by a group of people concerned about rising youth homelessness. Since then SYFS has grown into a large well respected organisation that is considered a model charity not only within the local Illawarra community but at a National Level as well.
Our Work SYFS specialises in providing assistance to young people who vulnerable, disadvantaged and homeless (ages twelve years to twenty four years) or at risk of disadvantage and homelessness. SYFS can also assist the family of these young people. Whilst we are best known for providing specialised accomodation services for homeless young people our work also extends well beyond just the provision of accommodation. Today SYFS offers a full suite of support services including Family Services, Education Training and Employment Support Services and Health Services. These services are delivered through an intergrated support system that includes, counselling, referral, advocacy, casework, groupwork, outreach, brokerage. The young people we assist include young men and women, young parents, Juvenile Justice clients, young people with a disability, Indigenous and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgounds, early school leavers
