Southern Youth and Family Services (SYFS) Extends its service to young people in State Care in the Shoalhaven

In January 2010, SYFS opened its new four bed residential service - Combined Accommodation Youth Service (CAYS) in Nowra. In June 2010 an additional four beds were opened in the Supported Accommodation Independent Living Support Service (SAILSS) in Nowra.

New Foyer Service Opens in the Illawarra

Southern Youth & Family Services (SYFS) has been funded by Community Services NSW to implement a Foyer Program.

What is a Foyer program? A foyer program combines supported youth accommodation with a strong education and training component.

SYFS offers Work and Development Orders to help young people work off their fines

Work and Development Orders are now being offered by Southern Youth and Family Services to assist young people in paying off their fines and providing them with an opportunity to engage in a positive activity such as counselling and trainitng etc.

SYFS Acknowledged at the Illawarra Business Awards

The work of Southern Youth and Family Services was acknowledged at the recent Integral Energy Illawarra Business Awards. The night was attended by over one thousand local business identities. SYFS took out the Community Sector award.

NSW Government Announces Homeless Plan

NSW Government announces $284m to tackle homelessness in NSWover the next four years.

The global financial crisis is said to have caused a big increase in the number of people already homeless in the state.

Latest data available shows there were 27,000 people without a roof over their head in NSW in 2006.

However that number has risen substantially in the last year according to the office of NSW housing minister David Borger.
